Simple Spirit

The purpose...

...of this site is to offer a clear, concise rationale for how to live a spiritual, honest life. There aren't any bells and whistles here – just words, designed to make you think about the ultimate nature of reality beyond what we normally see, and then use that understanding to live in a way that's true to yourself.

The idea...

...is to distill ideas and concepts of spirituality, metaphysics, and religion to their most basic forms.  The underlying premise in this is that our sense of our own spirituality and place in creation should be be complete and answer all of our questions, and at the same time be as uncomplicated as possible.

The dogma...

...doesn't exist.  There are no rules here, no authority in these words except what you give them as acceptable and right.  These are ideas, meant to spur debate and make you evaluate your own beliefs and principles that guide your decisions in life.

The authors...

...don't matter.  A belief system that works doesn't get its validity because it's uttered by a religious authority, philosopher – or a homeless metaphysician.  Regardless of your current or past belief structure (or lack of it), real truth is in the knowing, and not the telling.

Three insights

Truth is an ongoing, individual process.  But in any evolving process there are signposts we can look to along the way.  All modes of spiritual or religious thought rest on belief systems that we're either taught or that we experience.  The core beliefs that we individually accept from any system form the truths that we (hopefully) live by.

One useful exercise is to take the accepted beliefs of any system and whittle them down until they can't be reduced any further.  What's left, then, are the truths that form what you believe. This isn't a mere academic exercise...  Believing in a truth – believing in anything, really – without knowing why you believe is a path of futility that few would willingly choose.

The insights below were formed by taking a multitude of paths and distilling them until all that remained were the essential pillars that defined the nature of our existence.  Though brief, they govern our spiritual being in relation to our Creator, ourselves, and with all things. They're not meant to replace whatever system of religious or spiritual beliefs you may be living by. But they are meant to make you think about those systems, and judge your own beliefs with an open mind.

The insight that answers all questions

You cannot limit God in any way.  Ever.

The truth about yourself

You create every aspect of your own reality, seen and unseen, and you alone bear the responsibility for your life's circumstances and your fate.

The truth about your relationship with others and all things

All things known come from God, and are connected; therefore a total love of God, unconditional self-love, and compassion and love for others all represent the same thing.

And...

...that's it.  Each insight suggests answers to further, related questions, from "Why is there pain and suffering in the world" to the true meaning of abundance, probability, and choice.  Follow the threads of your own inquiries to see if the above insights answer all your other questions in a way you can accept.  Read them, debate them, agree or disagree.  But in the end, know what you believe and why you believe it, and make your decisions in life based on what you understand to be true.  Only then will you take ownership of your own spirit and be able to live an honest, spiritual life.

That's all that we can ever ask of another.
